Travel Tips

If you are a foreigner living in Mexico and will be vacationing in the country or abroad, we strongly recommend the following:

1.- Petition for your temporary permit to leave and return to Mexico with sufficient time (It takes up to 10 days) this is applicable if your immigration document is in any proceedings before the immigration authorities.

2.- When you travel (within the country) do so with your original passport and a complete copy of your immigration document (FM2, FM3, FMM).

3.- If you have a problem with a diverse authority, indicate to them that you are legally in the country and show your identification.

4.- In case of loss or theft of documents, file the report (called "denuncia") to the local prosecutor (known as "Procuraduria de Justicia").

5.- Do not let yourself be extorted by unscrupulous law enforcement agents, report all acts of corruption to the Government Comptrollers Office (Secretaria de la Funcion Publica) (http://www.funcionpublica.gob.mx/) or National Human Rights Commission (http://www. cndh.org.mx ).
