How to register the births of your children in Mexico

First, it is important to establish that birth registration is a right that every person born in the territory of the Republic of Mexico has, regardless of their immigration status, that is, whether legally or illegally in the country.

According to the Constitution, all persons born within the territory of Mexico, by this sole act, are creditors to Mexican nationality, and as Mexicans have a right to reside in the country.

Regarding the foreign families of those children born in the territory of the Republic, they also have the privilege to the preservation of their family integrity, a right that emerges from the Constitution of the United Mexican States, and the provisions of the Mexican Supreme Court, resulting in the right of the child's direct family members (Mother, father and younger siblings), to reside in Mexico with the child of Mexican Nationality, if they wish to do so.

To register the child born in Mexico he must be presented before the Judge of the Civil Registry for his lawful registration, this government official, by express provision of the Rules of the General Population Law, can not solicit that the child's foreign parents justify their legal stay in the country, but he must give notice to the National Immigration Institute (INM) of the birth record in a period not exceeding fifteen days.
